To enthusiastically promote the City of Newport News and its hospitality industry through creative marketing initiatives and cooperative programs that will increase revenue, visitation and awareness.

The basic philosophy for NNTDO group sales success is based on one thing: AWARENESS! The more people are aware of who NNTDO and NNVC are and what we do, the more people will book their groups here in Newport News. Awareness is providing by utilizing concise concentrated marketing effort through various outlets such as: AAA, Tour and Travel (students, seniors, group leaders, tour operators, receptive operators, reunions, etc.) and Sports Marketing.

NNTDO is able to accomplish this by maintaining a strong visibility in an array of markets.
  • Tradeshows: Where buyers and sellers meet to conduct business.
  • ABA (American Bus Association), NTA (National Tour Association), TEAMS (Travel, Events, and Management in Sports), Bank Travel
  • Direct Mail Campaigns:
  • Student mailings
  • Tour operator mailings
  • Military reunion mailings
  • Regional Group Cooperative Ventures:
  • 100 Miles of Lights, Catch A Wave, African-American Heritage
  • Virginia Civil War Trails
  • Conduct sales missions.
  • Organize and participate in tour operator and group leader familiarization tours.
  • Submit listings for Newport News to be featured in numerous group/meeting publications.
  • Participate in a number of associations.
  • Provide editorial information and materials supplied to group publications that might feature Newport News.
  • Develop relationships with other Destination Marketing Organizations, Receptive an Tour Operator Companies, Virginia Tourism Corporation, etc. so Newport News will be featured and represented.

Media
Another way to promote the City of Newport News and its vast tourism industry is through media relations. By utilizing media outlets a city's attractions are promoted to a local, regional and national audience. Local awareness of the role of a tourism office is increased. Some of the ways NNTDO and NNVC are able to do this includes:
  • Create and distribute media releases locally, regionally and nationally for Newport News and regional partnerships like 100 Miles of Lights, etc.
  • Assist the Virginia Film Office with requests for motion picture/film commercial locations
  • Organize familiarization tours for travel writers
  • City Channel broadcasts
  • Submit listings for our City to be featured in numerous publications: Virginia’s Travel Guide, Campground and Golf Directory, etc.
  • Provide editorial for magazines and publications that feature Newport News
  • Provide Calendar of Event information to publications locally, regionally, and nationally
  • Provide information about tourism through a semi-annual newsletter
